ames R. Barnes Mortuary, formerly Statesboro Mortuary was first opened in 1960. The original building was located on MLK Boulvard (formerly Blitch Street) and was founded by James R. Barnes and partner Milton Brown.
Having a desire to become a licensed funeral director, the Mortuary was closed and Barnes attended the John A. Gupton School of Mortuary Science in Nashville, Tennessee. Jimmy, as he is affectionately known to all finished school and was licensed in 1965. With the assistance and blessings of his parents, he then re-opened the Statesboro Mortuary. In 1968 Statesboro Mortuary moved to its present location on James Street. In 1970 the name changed to James R. Barnes Mortuary and has continued to serve Bulloch and surrounding counties since that time with dignity, loyalty and pride.
